Twice the Birthday Celebrations for Double-Double Trouble

Hey, Y’all!

I know, I know—it’s been a minute since I last spoke with you all, but I found some time from my busy academic schedule to update my blog. Besides, today’s blog post is extra special because this week, two special ladies (both of whom are family members) are celebrating birthdays back-to-back. With that said, I would like to acknowledge that my grandmother Vivian Jewel Jones will be celebrating her 79th Birthday this Wednesday, and my great aunt Theresa Bernice Coleman will be celebrating her 77th Birthday on this Thursday.

To celebrate their respective birthdays, here is a picture of the both of them together—and yes, I am smackdab in the middle of all that love (LOL). This picture was taken two years ago when Gramma Jewel paid a visit.

By the way, for those of you who are wondering: Gramma Jewel and Great Aunt Reesie earned the nickname “Double-Double Trouble” from their neighborhood elders after having beat up a Sixth Grade girl in school. The story goes that Gramma Jewel was in Fourth Grade and Great Aunt Reesie was in Second Grade. A girl in Gramma Jewel’s class was picking on Great Aunt Reesie, so Gramma Jewel proceeded to open up a can of whoop-ass. Well, the girl’s sister (the aforementioned Sixth Grader) was about to attack Gramma Jewel, but Great Aunt Reesie intervened, and thus the double-teaming commenced.

Also of note: Gramma Jewel was born October 15, 1935, and Great Aunt Reesie was born October 16, 1937—they are literally two years and one day apart. And over the years, they call and check on one another at least ten times out of the month.

Once again, I would like to wish a Happy Double Birthday to Double-Double Trouble. Love y’all lots, and God Bless.

Lotsa Love,
Natasha
