Happy
Friday, Everybody!
Join me in wishing a very special
Happy Birthday to Ms. Mildred Ann Vanderkellen—or as I’ve come to know her,
“Aunt Millie.” She is 77 years old today.
I got the opportunity to meet Aunt
Millie at our family reunion last year, and I found out for myself that she is
definitely one in a million… and that probably explains why my Uncle Ronnie
refers to her as “One in a Millie Ann” (a little play on words). Truth be told,
though—Aunt Millie is a real live genuine sweetheart; she’s like a combination
of Mary Ann from Gilligan’s
Island and Blanche Devereaux from The Golden Girls.
Aunt Millie is a Mississippi Delta
gal, just like my Gramma Jewel… matter of fact, Aunt Millie was born and raised
in Indianola, which is right down the road from Ruleville. Aunt Millie told me
the story of how she didn’t know the definition of a friend until she met my
Gramma Jewel and Great Aunt Reesie. Though it may be hard to tell in her
picture, Aunt Millie was an incredibly shy gal—that is, until she befriended my
grandmother and my great aunt.
And to this very day, that friendship is as strong as ever.
And of course, I’ve got to celebrate Aunt Millie the best way I know how—in the form of her favorite song… BOOM SHAKA-LAKA-LAKA!!!
Happy Birthday, Aunt Millie! Celebrate it well, and live it up!
Hugs & Kisses,
Natasha
