Go Get 'Em, Becky-Girl!

Happy Friday, Everybody!

I’m sure I threw y’all off with a different salutation, but that’s because I’m superexcited for my Cali homegirl Becky. As you may be aware of, tonight is her big night—she’s going to her prom this evening, all thanks to my cousin Calvin. Technically, it’s not her prom, but seeing as how she has taken some serious initiative and gone back to school to get her high school diploma, Cousin Calvin has taken it upon himself to treat Becky to a wonderful evening. I spoke to Cousin Calvin earlier today, and he was just leaving the carwash and was on his way to the cleaners to get his suit. And look, y’all—Calvin is just as excited as Becky; so excited is my cousin that he was ridiculously overjoyed when he gave me a rundown of his itinerary for the evening.

First, Cousin Calvin is gonna pick up Becky at our Auntie Glo’s house; I failed to mention that Auntie Glo is hosting a prom party in Becky’s honor, and she’s also volunteered to fix Becky’s hair and makeup. After plenty of picture taking, Cousin Calvin is gonna take Becky to the Cheesecake Factory in Marina Del Rey, then he’s gonna take her dancing. Cousin Calvin emphatically stated that he wants her to have the greatest night of her life.

Becky’s all excited, too—and y’all can’t blame her! After all, she’s been doing so well since she’s come to know my family. And don’t forget: Becky has survived so much at such a young age. Granted, she’s seven years older than I am, but yet and still, she deserves to be treated like the princess that she is. To think, she almost lost sight of her true self on account of her hardships, trials, and challenges, but all because someone invested in her, y’all should see the much-deserved smile that Becky has been sporting as of late!

I would give anything to be back in L.A., if for nothing but to help Aunt Glo put together the prom party for Becky—DAMMIT, I SO TOTALLY WANNA BE THERE!!!

I’m sorry for my emotional outburst—it’s just that I am just so excited for Becky. And how apropos is it that she’s going to experience her prom exactly one year after I experienced mine!

Well, y’all, that’s gonna be it for today. I’ll holla at y’all tomorrow, but until then, say a prayer for your girl… not me this time, but for my girl Becky!

Dammit—I Wish I Could Be Back Home!

Becky and my cousin Calvin, on their very first date.

Hi, Everyone!

I could post this blog with just the title alone and be done with it, but that has not been my style. There is a very good reason as to why I chose this title, and I am more than happy to share the reason with y’all.

Yesterday afternoon, I got a call from Becky Morgan, my honorary sister back home in Cali. She called me with such excitement in her voice that I could actually picture her blushing with glee. Check this out, y’all: My cousin Calvin wants to treat Becky to the prom that she never had.

Now, it’s no secret in my family that Calvin has been crushin’ on Becky for the longest, but yet and still, this is a very sweet gesture on his part. I mean, speaking as someone who has attended her prom, it’s a magical experience that I will forever remember. Now granted, Becky’s prom experience will be a little different, but it will be an experience nonetheless. And on top of all this, I know for a fact that Calvin has swept Becky off of her feet, because I can hear it in Becky’s voice. Everytime I ask her about her date with Calvin, she gets real giddy and her voice goes up a couple of octaves. That is a feeling that I know all too well… but this ain’t about me and Ray—this is about Becky and Calvin.

Of course, I gave Becky a heads-up as to what to expect on the day of her “prom.” She told me that she is gonna get all of that taken care of within the next two weeks; I already know that Gramma Jewel is gonna help her, but I’ve got a sneakin’ suspicion that Cousin Candace, Cousin Nessa, and Cousin Trisha are gonna want in on this.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why I say: “DAMMIT—I WISH I COULD BE BACK HOME!!!”

Until tomorrow, y’all…

Hugs & Kisses,
Natasha
