The Prodigal Son Has Returned to the WWE!

Hi, Everybody!

Yes, I realize that it’s been a minute since y’all heard from me, but that’s not the issue right now. The real issue is…

SHANE MCMAHON IS BACK IN THE WWE, BABY!!!

Now, this may not be news to some of y’all, and I understand that, but when you’ve grown up with your grandparents and have watched years of wrestling like I have, then you know how epic this news is for a wrestling fan! You see, Shane McMahon left the WWE about six years ago, and since then, his presence was heavily missed. When I first started watching wrestling in 1999, I remember Shane McMahon as one of the prominent figures on television. Although I didn’t like him as a bad guy, he earned my respect rather quickly when he proved that he could stand up to the likes of Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, Triple H, and even his own dad!

And let’s not get started on his “Love Her or Leave Her” street fight against the late Andrew “Test” Martin… WOW!!! When Shane leapt off that turnbuckle and dropped an elbow across Test on the announcer’s table, even I had to give Shane his props.

Well, imagine my surprise when I come back from the library, and I get calls from my Uncle Ronnie, Uncle Gregory, and Cousin Jade, all demanding me to watch only the first half hour of Monday Night Raw. I knew it had to have been good, and let’s face it—I hadn’t watched a lot of WWE in a while, so I decided to go ahead and watch it on the WWE’s YouTube channel. I saw that Stephanie McMahon had won the Legacy Award, and just as she was about to speak…

HERE COMES THE MONEY!!!
HERE COMES THE MONEY!!!

The crowd in the arena was crazy-loud, and they got even louder when Shane McMahon (now grey-haired but still stylish in his suit and fresh Jordans) burst through the curtain and performed his legendary Shane-O-Mac Shuffle! I was so excited that I started screaming. Ruby and Azalea said that I had tears in my eyes… hell, I probably did! I mean, it’s been a minute since I had a feel-good moment like yesterday evening.

Long story short, Shane is sick of his sister Stephanie running the WWE into the ground, and he wants his place back in line. Well, Vince McMahon stated that he will grant Shane’s wish, so long as Shane defeats the Undertaker inside Hell in a Cell at WrestleMania 32.

Talk about a conflict of interest! I want Shane to have control of WWE, but damn—not like this!

We shall see how this plays out until WrestleMania, but until then, let’s just enjoy the fact that Shane-O-Mac is back, Babies!

The Streak Has Officially Ended!

Hi, Everybody!

A wrestling fan always remembers where they were when certain pivotal moments take place. Well, I will never forget where I was and what I was doing when I found out that the Undertaker’s legendary WrestleMania streak was broken just last night.

Although I didn’t watch WrestleMania at all last night, I was kept up to speed by round-the-clock updates. I was on my laptop refreshing my browser every fifteen minutes, and I seem to remember around 8pm CST, Undertaker was about to face Brock Lesnar. Well, I knew it would be a pretty lengthy match, so I waited about twenty minutes, then I hit F5 to refresh my browser. Much to my surprise, I received an error message, and for some reason, I had a feeling that it was bad news. I closed my screen and reopened the website I was on, and I received another error message. Five minutes later, Neo Theo called.

“Tasha, you and Ruby are not gonna believe this,” he said, almost despondently. “Are y’all sittin’ down?”

I was already lying down on my bed, so I just sat up. I told Ruby to brace herself for some shocking news—and what a shock it was!

“Well, y’all, Undertaker’s WrestleMania streak is officially broken,” Theo lamented. “Brock Lesnar has defeated the Undertaker.”

Ruby and I were shocked, to say the least—after all, up until yesterday evening, Undertaker’s undefeated streak was unbreakable. The Streak in and of itself is legendary, and now, it has a blemish.

Theo went on to tell Ruby and me that from what he read, thousands of wrestling fans were thoroughly pissed off behind this decision. Well, to be honest, I’m more shocked than anything. First of all, regardless of what others believe and perceive, the bottom line is that the streak is broken. It doesn’t matter who broke it—all that matters is that an historic event has taken place in the annals of professional wrestling. No true wrestling will ever forget where they were and what they were doing when they saw 21-1 flash across the screen. I know I certainly won’t.

One last thing in closing: There have been talks about Undertaker having his last hurrah in the wrestling business. Well, even at the ripe age of twenty, I know that Mr. Booga Red (as my Gramma Jewel loves to call him) has had one helluva career. The very first time I saw Undertaker wrestle, he was in a First Blood Match against Stone Cold Steve Austin in the summer of 1999. Overall, though, my favorite Undertaker moment is WrestleMania 23, when he defeated Batista for the World Heavyweight Title. If this truly is Undertaker’s last hurrah, then I just want to say: Thanks for entertaining me, Taker! You will forever be known as the conscience of the WWE.

And lest I forget: Long Live The Streak!

The Torch Was Passed at WrestleMania 29

Hi, Everyone!

Well, here it is—Monday, April 8, 2013, the day after WrestleMania XXIX. I want to first of all thank Mr. & Mrs. Hudspeth for their hospitality and their invitation. I can speak for Theo as well when I say: I was thoroughly enjoyed and entertained, both by the Hudspeths and by WrestleMania.

To tell y’all the truth, I haven’t followed much of wrestling since I’ve been at Rust. I’ll catch it here and there, but I didn’t really catch up until around Royal Rumble time, when my hero (and future husband) The Rock won the WWE Championship from CM Punk. Since then and up to now, I’ve been following the story involving Rock and Cena.

Last night’s match was all about redemption for John Cena, seeing as how he lost to Rock last year. Well, in case y’all missed it—or haven’t been told—John Cena defeated Rock, ultimately becoming the WWE Champion. However, something happened that I didn’t expect: Rock passed the torch to Cena!

The Hudspeth household got silent when Rock and Cena exchanged appreciation and respect for one another. And then Cena left the ringside so Rock could soak in the adulation from “the millions… and millions” of fans both at MetLife Stadium and watching on television. As Rock thanked each and every one of us, he headed up the ramp, where Cena saluted him. Rock reciprocated the salute, then raised Cena’s hand and said symbolically: “This is the new face of WWE!”

When Ruby, Theo, and I got back to the dorm, we talked about the historic passing of that torch. As a wrestling fan of only thirteen years, I’ve heard about the torch being passed, but yesterday evening was the very first time that I actually saw it. Ruby, Theo, and I came to one simple conclusion: That was so freakin’ awesome!

And I still get chills everytime I think about it!

Other WrestleMania news: Triple H planted Brock Lesnar with a wicked Pedigree on the steel ring steps, and Undertaker extended the streak to 21-0 over a very worthy competitor in CM Punk. By the way: It made me cry when I saw Taker kinda tear up—no doubt he was thinking about William “Paul Bearer” Moody. That was a sweet, poignant, feel-good moment for sure.

Well, I gotta get going. I may have another blog for y’all this evening, but just in case I don’t, I’ll holla at y’all tomorrow.

Gearin' Up for Mania Weekend!

Hi, Everyone!

Well, today is Saturday, April 6, 2013, and it is a very special day for so many reasons. First of all, today would have been the 90th birthday of my church grandmother, Mrs. Harriette Fields. As you know, I wrote and dedicated a week’s worth of blogs to her. When I woke up this morning, Ruby said something about the yellow rose of Texas, and it got me thinking about Mother Fields, so I picked up her obituary and started reading it, and there is a mention of her love for the color yellow. I didn’t mention it before, but her favorite song was “What A Friend We Have In Jesus” by Aretha Franklin. Every fifth Sunday, she would sing that song… and she sho’ could sang (LOL)!

And I just thought about something: The last time she sang “What A Friend We Have In Jesus” was December 30, 2012—the very last time I saw her before I left for Rust.

In addition to recognizing a remarkable woman, I also must acknowledge that Theo and I are treating Ruby to a birthday movie. We’re all going into Memphis this afternoon to see G.I. Joe starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. For Theo’s sake, there had better be at least one cute girl in the movie. I say that because he may have to contend with hearing me and Ruby talking about how we would fight at WrestleMania just to see who would win The Rock’s heart. And speaking of the most electrifying man in sports entertainment, Ruby’s parents have invited us over to see WrestleMania XXIX. Will The Rock make history repeat itself, or will John Cena finally get his yearlong redemption and defeat the People’s Champ? We shall find out the answer to this and many other questions come time for WrestleMania.

Oh, and lest I forget: I would like to wish a very special Happy Birthday to my Gramma Jewel’s neighbor, Mrs. Edith Takashi. Be sure that Mr. Takashi and the twins take you someplace that you truly love.

I would love to write a live blog on tomorrow, given that it’s WrestleMania Weekend, but I’m gonna be too caught up in all the action. I do promise to give y’all the results of the Rock vs. Cena match on Monday, but until then, y’all have a good rest-of-the-weekend.
