That Girl's First Labor Day in Mississippi

Hi, Everyone!

So, here it is—Labor Day 2012. Any other time, I would be at my Auntie Gloria and Uncle Gregory’s house for a little get-together, then we would all convene at Gramma Jewel’s house.

Well, time does bring about a change doesn’t it?

I thought I would post this photo of me and my cousins; this picture was taken two years ago. This is the very first Labor Day that I am spending without my family—but then again, it was a Labor Day that I’ll forever remember. Even though I could not celebrate with my mom and dad, I am grateful for my roommate Ruby. She invited me over to her parents’ house for a small party. Her dad made some hamburgers, hot links, and brisket with macaroni salad, green beans, and corn… and I regrettably admit that Gramma Jewel’s strawberry seven-up cake has some competition. Mrs. Hudspeth made some banana pudding that was clearly out of this world. If I may use a Southern expression, Mrs. Hudspeth put “both them feet” up in that banana pudding. I actually told her that, and she thanked me for the compliment.

So, I’m back on the campus now, with plates of food and desserts. I told Ruby that whenever she makes a trip out west, she needs to look me up and I’ll hook her up with some good food—compliments of Mom, Dad, and Gramma Jewel, of course.

Now, if y’all will excuse me, I’ve gotten hungry again. Should I eat the brisket and macaroni, or the hamburger? One thing’s for sure—I’m saving that banana pudding!

Hugs & Kisses,
Natasha
