Well, today is May 31, 2015, and seeing as how today is the last day of the month of May, I want
y’all to know that I had a great time in church today. I also have a confession to
make: In just this past semester alone, I’ve only gone to church twice—once with
my Great Aunt Donna, and the other time with Ruby’s parents. Yes, I admit it—I am
a backslider, and I am so ashamed. However, when my mom and dad woke me up
for church this morning… well, let me just say that I was glad! Now, I will
admit that I turned back over, just to get five more minutes of sleep, and
doggone it all if those five minutes felt like five seconds. Nevertheless, I
got up out of bed and got ready for church.
Now, this was the funny part: Pastor Clark’s sermon was
taken from John 14:26, and the subject was “Don’t Forget to Remember.” Perhaps I
was in sync with Pastor Clark, because before he even started preaching, I knew
he was gonna talk about backsliders. To quote my Gramma Jewel: “Sure as sugar,”
Pastor Clark did just that! However, I was a little surprised when he admitted
that there are some times when he wants to backslide—on purpose!
Y’all know that I talked to him after the benediction,
right?
But here’s the most amazing part, y’all: I really believe
that Pastor Clark read my mind—either that, or The Lord told him what I was
thinking, because as sure as I’m graduating from Rust next year, Pastor Clark
looked square at me and answered my question… and he gave me a great answer,
too. He said: “Sister Natasha, the apostle Paul tells us in Romans 3:10 that
there is none righteous—no, not one—and that includes me. Yes, I know that I’m
one of the most well respected pastors in the city, but lemme tell the truth
about it: Sometimes, some-a-y’all can get on my last good nerve, and I know
that the feeling is mutual. I guess that’s why we’re made for each other.”
After service was over, I walked up to Pastor Clark and
thanked him for that wonderful sermon. He gave me a hug and said, “I musta said
something that caught your attention.” I merely told him that my church
attendance in the Bible Belt country is spotty at best, all things considered.
He just laughed and said, “That’s okay, Sister Natasha. Just remember to keep
God’s Word hidden in your heart, so that you won’t sin against him.”
See, y’all—I learned a little something at church!
Until tomorrow, y’all have a great one!
Smooches,
Natasha
