This blog post is really special because I’m honoring a young woman whom I look at as my role model and my hero—Nicole Yvonne Douglas, affectionately and well known as “Nikki Firefly.”
This past summer, I had the opportunity to talk to Nikki, and I discovered that we had a great deal in common; in addition to being the youngest in our respective families and our love for purple, Nikki and I have a strong love for teaching. Check this out, y’all: Teaching seems to be Nikki’s birthright; her great grandfather taught Fourth Graders, her grandmother taught Third Graders, and of course her dad (good ol’ Mr. D) is entering his twenty-first year at Sapp Elementary as a kindergarten teacher. It’s not so much a birthright for me, as it is a dream of mine. So, needless to say, Nikki and I have formed a sisterly teachers’ bond in which we have agreed to help each other out and stick by each other. I think it makes sense, considering that our respective families have been as tight as superglue and titanium steel for well over thirty years.
And how apropos is this: Today is Nikki’s 27th Birthday!
Yes, y’all—this was actually my modus operandi for writing this particular blog post. I would be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge Nikki’s birthday. With that said, let me just go ahead and say:
Happy #27, Nikki, and may The Good Lord continue to bless and keep you on this day, forever, and always.
Until tomorrow, y’all take it light!
Hugs & Kisses,
Natasha
