Friday's Freestyle Recognizes Susan A. Douglas

Hi, Everyone!

Today’s “Friday Freestyle” is dedicated to my Gramma Jewel’s next door neighbor, Mrs. Susan Ariel Gosinheimer-Douglas—or as I know her, “Mrs. D.” I think it is so apropos to dedicate my blog to her, especially considering that October is recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

A very close friend to my family for almost 30 years, Mrs. D had a health scare on June 12, 2009, just a week and a half after her 50th birthday. On that fateful day, she noticed a lump on her left breast. Though alarmed, Mrs. D went straight to the doctor that same day. A biopsy was scheduled a week later and the results were in: although the lump was benign, Mrs. D needed surgery.

Since then, Mrs. D has become an advocate for breast cancer awareness. She has always considered herself “truly blessed beyond all recognition,” which just so happens to be her motto in life, but now her motto has become her testimony. That is a great testimony for her to have, because Mrs. D has always been one to greet anyone with a sparkling smile and a laugh resembling that of Betty Rubble. She is a loving wife of 32 years to Mr. D, a devoted mother of three, a godmother/great auntie, and most recently, she became a grandmother on July 21, 2012.

I cannot say in great faith that I would have handled Mrs. D’s situation as calmly as she did. All things considered, I would have probably panicked—and I’m quite certain that Mrs. D was terribly frightened—but yet and still, she handled it with such ease. For that, I admire and respect Mrs. D, not only for being so brave, but also for taking immediate action.

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I salute you, Mrs. D!

Until next time, have a great weekend.

Hugs & Kisses,
Natasha
