I'm Officially A "Southern" Southern Californian... LOL!

Hi, Everyone!

Y’all, the fall season has truly hit the South. You can tell on account of the leaves have changed from green to a gorgeous yellowish-gold color, and there are even some red leaves. I had to take a picture of this because it’s something that I’m not accustomed to seeing in L.A., much less paying attention to. And as far as the weather—yikes! The past couple of nights have been like, sixty-something degrees outside, and I am like, shivering… hey, don’t laugh. This is no joke—I am really cold. The local residents may be acclimated to this weather, but I’m sure not.

And Ruby brought to my attention that I have picked up on the Southern vernacular and the Southern expressions. She said something funny the other day, and I made mention that what she said was “crazier than a sack of pissants.” Of course, Ruby laughed at me, but I was quick to remind her that my Gramma Jewel uses that saying all the time, so if anything, I picked that quote up from her. I guess when I return home for the Christmas vacation, I can tell my church that I am officially a “Southern” Southern Californian… LOL!

Another thing: I no longer have a fear of thunderstorms. After about my fifth or sixth storm, I’ve gotten used to them. The first time I experienced a storm—it had to have been during Hurricane Isaac—the lightning flashed and the thunder rolled, and the rain came down like, really heavy. I had no problems telling Ruby that I was scared, and remarkably, she didn’t poke fun at me. She understood that I was a Cali girl, but told me that thunderstorms and the South went together like peanut butter and jelly. It was then that I remembered what my mom and Auntie Cherri told me: “Be still and let The Lord do His work.” With that said, I picked up my Bible and read my Grampa Clark’s favorite scripture, Psalm 125. Maybe fifteen minutes later, I wasn’t scared anymore. Granted, the flashes of lightning took me by surprise, but apart from that, I wasn’t frightened anymore.

Meanwhile, back in L.A., I’m sure that Mom and Dad are still not acclimated to having me away this long. We all knew the sacrifices going into this whole new world, but by golly—we’re makin’ it happen, thanks be to God.

Well, that’s enough chitchat for today. Gotta get back to studyin’—finals are in five days, don’tcha know!

Hugs & Kisses,
Natasha
