Ode to Gilligan's Island

Hi, Everyone!

I’m done with classes today, and I have a study session this evening at 7pm CST, so right now I feel like being silly. With that said, today’s blog post is dedicated to Bob Denver, Alan Hale II, Jim Backus, Natalie Schafer, Tina Louise, Russell Johnson, and Dawn Wells.

That’s right, y’all—today’s blog post is dedicated to Gilligan’s Island!

I first started watching Gilligan’s Island when it came on the Nick At Nite lineup. I was six years old at the time, and bless my little heart—my mom and dad could not convince me that it was just a TV show, let alone an old television show. I’m already branded for having a big heart, so y’all can imagine how I felt when I saw Gilligan, Skipper Grumby, Mr. & Mrs. Howell, Ginger, Professor Hinkley, and Mary Ann stranded on that desert island for seemingly too long.

And here we are, thirteen years later, and Gilligan’s Island is back on television, this time on Me-TV.

Actually, it had been on television for about a month and some change, but Ruby and I were watching it just yesterday evening—and the jokes started flying from us, left and right. We started talking about the ridiculousness of being stranded on an island for fifteen years, according to the storyline of television. I remember my Uncle Ronnie once said: “If we was on that island, that show woulda lasted no more than three episodes. The first episode would revolve around getting stranded on the island, the second episode would be dedicated to finding a way of leaving the island, and the third and final episode would be simply entitled ‘Bye, Island!’” I shared this story with Ruby, and she pointed out that there would be a fourth episode, but it would be like a reunion of sorts.

I just want to point out that I am still a huge fan of Gilligan’s Island—always have been and always will be. And I may as well go ahead and admit it: I kinda had a crush on Gilligan! In any event, I want to close this blog post by saying that if you’re still looking for that good old-fashioned ol’ skool television, then you needn’t look no further than those seven castaways… I’m talkin’ about Gilligan, the Skipper too, the millionaire and his wife, the movie star, the professor, and Mary Ann—here on Gilligan’s Isle!

Until tomorrow, y’all have a gooden!

Smooches,
Natasha
