Gramma Jewel's Got Talent

Good Wednesday Morning, Y’all!

I’m sure you all are looking at the photo that I chose for today’s blog post, and you’re probably asking yourselves: “What in the world? When did Ms. Viv get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame?”

Well, let me assure you that my Gramma Jewel has not received a star… at least, not yet, anyway. I made this star for Gramma Jewel to show my support. You see, Gramma Jewel is gonna be singing in a talent show at her church on Sunday, July 21, and y’all already know that I ain’t about to miss that! Becky told me that ever since the announcement was made about a talent show, Gramma Jewel has been practicing the legendary gospel song “In The Upper Room” by Mahalia Jackson, which suggests to me that she’s gonna sing that very song. If I know Gramma Jewel, though—and I damn sure do—then she’s gonna put her spin on it. I also understand that Ms. Thelma is gonna be one of Gramma Jewel’s background singers…

Ms. Thelma & Gramma Jewel ride again, tho!

I guess it’s safe to say that Gramma Jewel’s got all kinds of talent! For one thing, she still makes the best damn strawberry seven-up cake in the world, she can also boogie on the dancefloor, and she’s also one helluva singer. I already know that she’s gonna do a good job… and I must also announce that Becky is in the talent show as well. She didn’t tell me a whole lot, though; she just made mention that she will be reciting an original poem, and we should be able to “read between the lines.” I cannot possibly begin to understand that cryptic message—I’ve been rackin’ my brain for the past week or so in trying to figure out what her poem is all about, but I’m gonna take her advice and read between the lines.

It really sounds like Gramma Jewel’s church is gonna do like the television show America’s Got Talent, but without the judges and money prizes. Actually, Becky told me that she and her fellow Young Lilies are over the whole program. Well, the bottom line is that, barring those circumstances outside of my control, I’m gonna be there to lend my full support. Let’s face it—I may got to St. Matthew Baptist Church, but I have strong familial ties with First Baptist Church of Culver City… I’m just sayin’!

Well, y’all, let me get back up here and record some more footage for my home video… and speaking of my home video, I’ve finally figured out what’s missing: I said that I was gonna record some footage of me and Gramma Jewel chillin’ in the cut. Well, ain’t no sense in rackin’ my brain anymore—I had best get down on it and get set for recording some precious footage.

Until tomorrow, I’ll holla at y’all later!

Hugs & Kisses,
Natasha
