A Phone Call From My Bestie, Tho!

Hey, Y’all!

So, check this out: Around eleven o'clock this morning, I got a phone call from my bestie, Ruby Jean Hudspeth! And she ain’t changed a bit, either—the first thing she asks me is: “How the hell are ya, Vipress? You ain’t been coilin’ up and strikin’ folks with your venom, is ya?”

Trust me when I tell y’all—it wouldn’t be Ruby if she didn’t tease me a little bit… and of course, she had to ask me about Ray. Those questions that she had, tho: “Have you guys talked? Did y’all go out on a date yet? Is it official? Did he give you a kiss that had you purrin’ like a kitten?”

The best comeback I had was: “Really, Ruby Jean? That’s what we’re doin’ now?”

It’s funny that Ruby bombarded me with all those questions about Ray. You see, while I was on the phone with her, I was putting together Ray’s birthday present. They say that the way to a man’s heart is his stomach, so I made him some chewy peanut butter cookies. I also know that he was raving about my Valentine brownies a couple of months ago, so I’m gonna make some more of those as well. And for some reason (Lord only know why), I told Ruby all of this. Perhaps I wanted her to tease me some more, but this time she only said: “Check you out, Miss Tasha—I ain’t mad at’cha, not one bit!”

It certainly was nice to hear from my girl Ruby Jean—or as I call her, Ruby Red. I asked if she heard from Neo Theo, and she said that he called her yesterday and left a message. Theo will more than likely be calling to check on me sometime this weekend, or maybe sometime next week. He’s probably doing like me and marveling in the fact that he has a much greater appreciation for his hometown; he’s from Houston, you know.

Well, I guess I had better close this blog up and put the last finishing touches on Ray’s birthday present. Naturally, I’ll give it to him when we go out this Saturday. In the meantime, y’all take care, and God Bless.
