An Afternoon with Gramma Jewel & Becky

What Up, Y’all!

I just got home after spending practically the whole day with Gramma Jewel and Becky—and what a time we had!

As y’all may know, Gramma Jewel and I accompanied Becky to tour the campus of Chamberlain University in West Covina this afternoon. Check this out: We left at about a quarter to noon and got to the university at about 12:30pm or so. I want to state for the record that I am very seriously thinking about transferring to Chamberlain! Nothing against Bearcat Country, but I think I’ve fallen in love with Becky’s future alma mater. For one thing, if I do transfer, I’ll be a helluva lot closer to my family; I’ll be about an hour away as opposed to two thousand miles away… and yes, I do realize that I’m saying all of this because I’m glad to be back home. Hell, you can’t fault me for how I feel—I’ve been away from my family for so long… and don’t judge me! Y’all would feel the exact same way if y’all were in my shoes… I’m just sayin’!

Anyway, the tour was great—and I’m saying that mainly because the first half hour of the tour was outside. I’ll say this for Chamberlain University: It is some kinda beautiful up there. And y’all should’ve seen how Becky was marveling over the different buildings and classrooms. She told the Dean of Students all about her dream of becoming a teacher and/or a counselor, to which the Dean immediately directed us to the building in which she would spend most of her time. Becky was very impressed, and quite frankly, so was I!

By the way: The added incentive for me considering a transfer from Rust to Chamberlain—among other obvious reasons—is the fact that the university is across the way from the West Covina Shopping Mall. Come on, now—that’s more than enough reason for me to wanna transfer back to good ol’ Southern Cali!

After our tour, we headed over to the West Covina Mall (ain’t no coincidence, either), and we dined at Applebee’s—Gramma Jewel’s treat. I brought up how I have a greater appreciation for Los Angeles than I did when I left last August… and that’s another blog for another day. I also mentioned how grateful I am to be out of the house for longer than two hours. It was then that Gramma Jewel gave me her sweet, grandmotherly wisdom and said to me: “Congratulations, Tasha—you have officially arrived. You have become that strong, sexy, intelligent, responsible, sweetheart of a woman who has been blessed with a little bit of wisdom, and your hair ain’t even grey yet.”

That was sweet of Gramma Jewel to say, but she then turned her attention to Becky and said: “Now, as for you, Miss Morgan—I am just so thrilled to pieces that you have blossomed into this strong, sweet, responsible, and ambitious woman. I wants ya to know that I’m very proud-a-you, Baby! I know you coulda given up, but you stuck with it to the very end. And believe me when I tell ya: On Friday, June 21, we all gon’ be there in droves to watch you get your long-awaited high school diploma. And now you’re goin’ off to college… I love you, Buttercup!”

And then we all shed tears in a big group hug. Believe it or not, there was a family at a table next to us that applauded us and said that they appreciated our “feel-good” moment.

Wow! I wrote a lot today, didn’t I? Well, I had better end it for today, but I’ll holla at y’all tomorrow after church—“for real, for real” this time.

Love Y’all!

Hugs & Kisses,
Natasha
