Me with Pastor & Mrs. Clark, tho! |
Hi, Everyone!
I just got home from church, and it was a lovely service. We had a guest minister give a sermon from Proverbs 18:24, and the subject was “Friends—How Many Of Us Have Them?” My mom and dad were kinda quietly chuckling when they heard the title of the sermon, but they really holla’d laughing when the guest minister said: “I was about to title this sermon, ‘The Gospel According to Whodini,’ but I wanted to be cognizant of what I said… although some-a-y’all already know who I’m referring to when I mentioned Whodini!”
The sermon was basic but profound: There’s an old saying about breaking a few eggs to make an omelette—well, the first half of Proverbs 18:24 is saying that if we want friends, we must first show ourselves friendly. Now, the last half of that same verse goes a little bit deeper; I understood it to say that our human friends are only temporary, but Jesus Christ is—as my Gramma Jewel would say—the “onliest friend” that we really need. When our biological siblings stray from us (be it by death or other circumstances), Jesus is closer to us than anyone we’ll ever know.
See, I pays attention in “chuch!” Hahahaha!
And now, I can lie down on this bed and say that I’ve once again accomplished my goal. Once again—all things considered—I got out of the house for more than two hours… hahahaha! Oh, I forgot to mention that I gave the Sunday School lesson today. I just wish that Mother Fields was there to hear me, although she has heard me give the lesson once before. I just miss her pinching my left cheek and giving me a kiss on the other cheek, then letting me know that I made her proud to be her former Sunday School teacher. And whilst I’m thinking about it, next Saturday (June 22) would have been Mother Fields’ 90th birthday. I’ll be sure to do a give a little tribute on next Saturday.
Well, y’all—I guess I had better get going. There’s not much news to report right now, but trust me when I tell y’all: I’ll have something for y’all on tomorrow. Until then, y’all take care.
Hugs & Kisses,
Natasha
