I can’t believe it—this is the last Friday of my summer vacation. I really hope I made the best of it.
Since 7:30am this morning, I’ve been with my mom and dad all day, just chillin’ in the cut and kickin’ it ol’ skool. My dad treated us to breakfast at Denny’s and told us that we could order anything we wanted—and by the way, I wanted to bring my camcorder, but was outvoted two to one that I shouldn’t bring it into the restaurant. I adhered to my mom and dad’s admonition, but thankfully they took a couple of pictures while we were in the fine dining establishment.
After breakfast, we headed out to the mall and did some college shopping for our girl Becky. As y’all know, she’s going to Chamberlain University in about two weeks. By the time she starts school, I’ll already be at Rust. I sure wish I could be there to help her move into her dorm, but I’ll at least get to see her this Sunday over Gramma Jewel’s, so it’s all good.
Oh, that’s the other thing I forgot to mention: Gramma Jewel is cooking a congratulatory dinner for me, Becky, Cousin Matt, and Cousin Trisha. The dinner is Gramma Jewel’s way of showing how happy she is of us. Notwithstanding my return to Bearcat Country and Becky’s college debut, we’re also celebrating the fact that Cousin Matt and Cousin Trisha will be finishing up their academic year and thus will be part of the Class of 2014. Hopefully, I’ll be able to be out there to see them walk that aisle, and after they earn their sheepskin, it’s gonna be all up to me to round third and bring it home. I tell y’all—it’s hard work being the last grandchild to graduate from college, but with The Lord and my family, I can and I will go the distance. It’s an uphill slope, but I won’t lose hope—yes, y’all remember that I used that song as my theme in my speech class—but I am gonna go the distance, and I’m gonna complete this goal for both my family and for myself!
Anyway, after shopping for Becky, my mom decided to treat me and my dad to Chili’s. While we were kickin’ it and chowin’ down, both my mom and my dad were quick to tell me that they were very proud of my success at Rust. And then from out of the blue, my dad starts singing “You Are My Sunshine.” After blushing out of both embarrassment and appreciation, my mom then says to me: “Keep up the good work, Smurfette. And as far as your haters go, let ‘em hate—it ain’t your fault that you do what you do!”
When my mom is right, she’s right!
All in all, I had a good time with my mom and dad today—it really was time well spent. I’m definitely gonna get this chance before I leave for Rust, but in the meantime in between time, I gotta get fully prepared for my date with Ray tomorrow. And check this out: The weatherman said that it’s supposed to be somewhere between 85 and 90 tomorrow. Y’all already know what that means—I get to wear one of my sundresses!
Well, I’ll holla at y’all tomorrow evening after I come home from my date, but until then, y’all be good. Take care and God Bless.
Hugs & Kisses,
Natasha
