Today’s blog is very special—in fact, today’s blog is so special that I’m just gonna cut to the chase:
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY COUSIN, ERICA DENISE FREEMAN!!!
That’s right, y’all—today is my Cousin Erica’s birthday! She is officially 18 years old today, and believe me when I tell ya, turning 18 is a great big deal. I know this to be true because I was 18 years old once upon a time. It really doesn’t seem so long ago, but I sure had some fun times back then… hahahaha!
Anyway, here’s a brief bio on our Birthday Girl:
Erica is a native of Nashville, Tennessee, the only child born to Keith & Jade Freeman. She is also the granddaughter of Theresa “Reesie” Coleman, and the great niece of Vivian Jewel Jones. While she is short in stature, she has a very large heart—and come to think of it, every woman in our family (both young and old) possesses that trait. But anyway, a couple things that I know about Erica are as follows: She loves the color orange, her favorite singer is Whitney Houston, and she loves mixing Snickers candy in with chocolate chip ice cream. I also know that Cousin Erica will forever hold Friday, May 31, 2013 forever in her heart. If you recall, it was on that fateful day that her dad returned home from Afghanistan—and for good!

Also, Cousin Erica will be making her Fisk University debut in just a couple of days. She’s still deciding on whether she wants to be a teacher, a principal, or a businesswoman—and from the sounds of things, she’s leaning more towards earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. Well, whatever she chooses, she’s gonna excel very well in it, because she comes from a long line of success stories. I’m not bragging when I say this, but I truly believe my family—going all the way back to my Great Gramma Bernice—has written the book on success stories… I’m just sayin’. But anyway, in talking to Cousin Erica, I can tell that she is very excited to begin her college journey. As a matter of fact, I talked to her this morning, and it was all that she talked about. She kinda did have one regret, though: She wanted to attend a Southern Cali college, just so she could be around her Cali family. I was kinda hoping for it myself—the irony was just delicious. Y’all heard of that TV show Wife Swap? Well, if destiny had allowed it to be so, Cousin Erica and I would’ve had our own TV series called “Cali Girl vs. Southern Gal” or something like that. I mean, the premise would’ve pretty much written itself: Erica would have adapt to being a Cali girl, and I’m practically a Southern gal anyway… oh, what could’ve been.
Well, I guess I’m done with the reminiscing and the sappy dedications—for now anyway! I shall holla at y’all tomorrow, but until then, y’all be good and take it light.
And once again: Happy Birthday, Cousin Erica—and God Bless!
Hugs & Kisses,
Natasha
