I’ve not long been home from church—and as usual, it was a good day of worship and fellowship with the good people of St. Matthew Baptist Church.
Check this out: I got a break from teaching the Cradle Roll class—Mrs. Helmsley taught the little kiddies today, but as per our conversation last week during Vacation Bible School, she asked me to be her assistant. Seeing as how I’m a team player, I decided to add a little flavor to the lesson: Everytime Mrs. Helmsley asked the Cradle Roll class a question, I would raise my hand and say, “Ooh! Ooh! I know! I know!” And that would get the little kiddies more involved in the class—yes, even more so now than they’ve ever been.
Now, during the service this morning, Pastor Clark preached from Mark 10:46-52, which was a lesson that I taught the Cradle Roll class last week in Sunday School—ain’t that phenomenal! Anyway, Pastor Clark chose the subject “Tell Him What You Want,” and what I found funny was that he actually sang a little bit of “Wannabe” by the Spice Girls. I mean, it was hilarious! Pastor Clark says: “When you have a specific request, you need to do like those five girls said in that song and tell God whatcha want—whatcha really, really want!”
Now, y’all are gonna laugh when I say this, but about fifteen percent of the church started singing along with Pastor Clark—me, Mom, and Dad included. Pastor Clark then chuckles and says: “Uh-huh, y’all ain’t always been singin’ along with the Mississippi Mass Choir!”
Just in case I never mentioned it before, I absolutely love how down-to-earth my pastor is!
Well, y’all—seeing as how today is Sunday, we are officially two weeks away until I go back to Bearcat Country. I was just taking a look at my itinerary; technically, I leave on August 19 at two in the morning PST, and arrive in Memphis at 7am CST. I can’t believe I’m doing this, but I’m actually getting stuff packed right now so that I won’t be caught slippin’ later. And trust me when I tell y’all—I’m packin’ my sundresses as we speak! Y’all forget that this go-round ain’t my first rodeo; I’m goin’ back to the Sip fully prepared. From what I already know about the South, it gets ridiculously hot around this time, so I wanna make sure that I have my new wardrobe with me for the next couple of months. Also, seeing as how my Southern Cali vacation is about to come to a close, I want to make sure that I see my sweetie pie at least three more times. Hopefully I’ll get to see him before I go over to my Gramma Jewel’s this week for our Summertime Slumber Party. I’ll call him this evening and see what he’s got goin’ on.
Wow! It looks like I had a whole lot to talk about today, but I’d best close this here blog post and work some more on my home movie project, and afterwards I’m gonna call Gramma Jewel and holla at her for a minute. Until tomorrow, y’all take care and God Bless.
Hugs & Kisses,
Natasha
