Happy Sunday, Y’all!
I don’t know about Candi, Trisha, Vanessa, and Candace—and Gramma Jewel can speak for herself—but I had a great time at First Baptist Church of Culver City this morning, from Sunday School all the way to the benediction.
I don’t know about Candi, Trisha, Vanessa, and Candace—and Gramma Jewel can speak for herself—but I had a great time at First Baptist Church of Culver City this morning, from Sunday School all the way to the benediction.
Speaking of Sunday School, I hadn’t thought about it until I woke up this morning, but knowing that I would be going to church with Gramma Jewel, I called Mrs. Helmsley and informed her of my whereabouts, letting her know that I would be unable to assist her with the Cradle Roll class today. I even apologized to Mrs. Helmsley for breaking this news to her on such short notice, but imagine my surprise when Mrs. Helmsley said that she totally understood, and that she wanted me to have fun with my Gramma Jewel ‘nim. She also said that she was quite appreciative of me calling her like I did, and said that I was “definitely a responsible young lady.” I thanked Mrs. Helmsley and then I told her to give my love to the kiddies.
So, today at Gramma Jewel’s church, Pastor Rich preached about “Each One Teach One,” and he used Proverbs 22:6 as his inspiration. He broke down the verse from a spiritual standpoint first, mentioning how we are all children in Christ, no matter how old we are. Once we accept Christ as our Lord and Savior, it is Christ who then molds us into the right way of living, until we see Him again. Pastor Rich also took time out to acknowledge those who are teachers and educators—he made mention of Mr. D, my playcousin Nikki, and then he mentioned yours truly. He goes: “And it is to my understanding that Mother Jones’ youngest granddaughter is studying to be a kindergarten teacher. You just go ‘head on with it, Miss Tasha!”
It was all I could do to keep from smiling and blushing, but heck—I couldn’t help it!
Well, anyway, after service ended, Gramma Jewel’s friend Mr. Hawkins treated us all out for dinner at Sizzler. On a personal note—though I may have said this already—I see why Gramma Jewel likes Mr. Hawkins! He is simply a sweet, sweet man. Do y’all know that he made sure each and every one of us ladies sat down first? He even suggested that we place our orders before him—now, that’s a gentleman. I couldn’t help it; I looked at Mr. Hawkins and said: “Each one teach one, Mr. Hawkins?” And he simply chuckled and said: “That’s right, little lady. You see, as long as God still gives me breath and strength, I’m gon’ teach these young bucks what bein’ a true gentleman is all about, ya know what I mean, Jellybean!”
Y’all, I could continue to go on and on with today’s blog post, but it’s gotta stop sometime. With that said, I shall holla at y’all later. Oh, before I forget, I must embrace the inevitable—I officially have one more week until I go back to Rust College. I mean, seriously, though—where did the time go? Didn’t I make my return back in June? How the heck did it get to be August 11, 2013 so quickly? Oh, well—ain’t no sense in kvetching about it; besides, it is what it is.
Okay, y’all—I’ll holla at y’all tomorrow, but until then, y’all take care.
Hugs & Kisses,
Natasha
